Along with a new trailer that bowed this morning, focusing primarily on Hit-Girl but also featuring a few moments of dialogue with Jim Carrey's Colonel Stars and Stripes, the filmmakers behind Kick-Ass have rolled out a pair of new character posters for the film, one for each of those two characters. Also now available - a red-band (age-restricted) version of the Hit-Girl trailer that came out this morning. Basically the same movie, but with more naughty language, it's not really any more revealing as to the story, but it's more in keeping with the tone of the comic, and with what you'll see onscreen. Interestingly, the R-rating means that actress Chloe Grace Moretz, who plays Hit-Girl and is a key component of the film's marketing campaign, having been a fan-favorite in the first movie, couldn't attend the film unsupervised (she's 16).

Carrey heads back to his over-the-top comedy roots for his poster, which shows his character grizzled and ugly with the use of false teeth and prosthetics; it's a good thing he's a fan, as the value of having Carrey in the film if he's barely recognizable had to have occurred to someone at Universal along the way. You can check out the red band trailer below. Kick-Ass 2 hits theaters on August 16.
