The Bourne Legacy

, the fourth installment of the Jason Bourne series which previously starred Matt Damon and now features the work of The Avengers' Jeremy Renner, is looking to pull in $48 million this weekend as the box office matches pace with last year's numbers for the first time in about a month. Box Office Mojo is predicting a $46 million opening weekend for The Bourne Legacy, followed by a $24 million bow for The Campaign, Will Ferrell's new political comedy which will open wide. In spite of the fact that it will likely earn ten times as much, it's so far playing second fiddle in the media to 2016: Obama's America, a smear film being released this weekend in hopes of swaying swing voters away from the President. Mojo expects The Dark Knight Rises to come in third place this weekend, opening at just under $20 million and thus having to wait another week (or at least another couple of days) before surpassing The Hunger Games' $405 million domestic haul to become the second-biggest movie of the year. Rounding out the top five should be Hope Springs with around $11 million and Total Recall with $10.5 million, according to Box Office Mojo, although other estimates have all of the top four movies opening slightly higher (Deadline is saying $48 million for Bourne down to $12 million for Hope Springs, which could provide the older, more female-skewing drama with a buffer to ensure it doesn't swap places with Ferrell's underperforming remake, which will likely be competing with The Bourne Legacy and The Campaign for theater dollars anyway.
