Gillian Anderson, best known to a generation of lovestruck sci-fi fans as Agent Dana Scully from TV's The X-Files, has signed on the dotted line to star alongside Haley Joel Osment in a new sci-fi mystery called I'll Follow You Down, according to a report from Deadline. The film will also star Rufus Sewell, who plays the villain in the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. After headlining the most popular show on television, both Anderson and her co-star (Twin Peaks alum David Duchovny) have more or less faded into the background in Hollywood since The X-Files wrapped up, choosing to do lower-profile projects and independent films. A second X-Files movie (the first came out while the show was still on the air) was met with middling reviews and an indifferent box office in 2008 but was still widely acknowledged to be better than its 1998 precursor, Fight the Future. According to the Deadline story, the film is about "a scientist, Gabriel (Sewell), who mysteriously disappears during a business trip, devastating his wife Marika (Anderson) and son Erol (Osment). Erol and his grandfather (Green Lantern: First Flight's Victor Garber) years later make a shocking discovery about Gabriel's whereabouts." Deadline indicates that the film is "a follow-up" to director Richie Mehta's Amal, which seems odd as that movie was about a rickshaw driver who finds himself suddenly heir to a fortune after one of his fares sees something special in him; unless Gabriel turns out to be the man who gave Amal the inheritance, it's hard to guess how the two fit together and could be interesting to see. No release date was available for I'll Follow You Down, although the article states that the studio has already begun production and hopes to shoot through June.
