The bats were rescued from the Waugh Bridge which is home to an estimated 250,000 Mexican free-tailed bats, according to CBS.
Not only was it an honorable act for the Houston residents to save the bats, but also it is in the interest of the ecosystem to save the animals. On a nightly basis, about two and a half ton of insects are eaten by the creatures.
"Take away those bats, you're going to be in big trouble," Michelle Camara, the owner of Bat World Alama said.

The bird had nowhere to land and ended up in the passenger's seat of Bruso's car. The driver attempted to shoo away the hawk, but it refused to leave.
"He looks like he's scared. He doesn't know what's going on," Bruso said in one of his YouTube videos documenting the surprise visit. "He just kind of hopped on in and doesn't want to leave. I'm not sure what to make of it."
Bruso then took the bird inside his home and fed it chicken hearts. Harvey the hawk has since been placed with a licensed rehabilitator, Huffington Post reports.
