Thanks to Amazon Alexa, a New Mexico man is behind bars after beating his girlfriend and threatening to kill her.

According to FOX News affiliate, KRQE in Albuquerque, Eduardo Barros and his girlfriend got into an altercation while housesitting for a friend when she received a text message.

The station reports that Barros grew angry and accused her of cheating, which turned their argument physical with the 28-year-old pulling a gun on her, then asking, "Did you call the sheriffs?"

The police department tells the New York Post that Amazon's voice-powered virtual assistant, Alexa, inadvertently picked up the question he asked, recognized the phrase and called 911. It's not known if it was the Amazon Echo or Echo Dot, but the Alexa device was connected to a landline for which the call was made.

The New York publication obtained the arrest warrant that reports when 911 called the phone, Barros threw the victim to the floor and kicked her 10 times in the face and stomach, saying he couldn't believe the cops were called and was not going back to prison.

Barros was arrested at the house after a negotiation team and SWAT were called to the premises. He was ordered to be held without bail on charges of possession of a firearm, aggravated battery, and false imprisonment.

The sheriff told ABC News that the technology likely saved the woman's life.
