Dirty Dancing Remake Gets First Trailer, Twitter Tears Into It
Dirty Dancing is a much-beloved '80s classic. It has a lot of heart, and a whole lot of Patrick [...]
They're doing a dirty dancing remake?!? One of my all-time favorite movies. This is blasphemy. #NobodyPutsBabyInARemake #CastIsUnflattering

With the two main roles secured, who was going to round out the cast? Well, ABC made sure it was a who's who of B+ listers.
There's Bruce Greenwood (Mad Men) and Debra Messing (Will & Grace) as Dr. Jake Houseman and Marjorie Houseman, Baby's parents, and Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) as Lisa Houseman, Baby's sister.
The film also features former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger as Penny Johnson, Johnny's main dance partner before she betrays him, and before things get hot and heavy between him and Baby.

Rounding out the cast are legendary actor Billy Dee Williams (The Empire Strikes Back) as resort bandleader Tito Suarez, and Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) as Vivian Pressman, an older woman who wants to sleep with Johnny.
It looks like ABC did try to nail down some respected and unarguably talented actors and actresses for this film, but taking on the responsibility of reimagining a film that is so near and dear to people is rarely going to be met with resounding praise and excitement.

Bottom line, they were probably doomed to have fans responded aggressively from the get-go, but time will tell if that aggressive backlash was warranted or not. We'll find out when Dirty Dancing premieres on ABC on Wednesday, May 24th.
