Whereas other studios have had mixed results with their live-action remakes of classic fairy tales, Disney has been churning out financially successful ones left and right. The Angelina Jolie-led Maleficent grossed $758.5 million at the worldwide box office, the Kenneth Branagh-directed Cinderella scooped up over a half a billion dollars, the Jon Favreau-directed Jungle Book came up $34 million shy of hitting a billion, and next month's release of Beauty and the Beast will surely smash some box office records.

With all that being said, you can understand why the Mouse House is developing a live-action remake of their 1989 animated classic, The Little Mermaid. It hasn't been green-lit just yet, but that moment will come soon enough. And when that times comes, former Disney star and perpetual train wreck Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls, The Parent Trap) would like to be considered for the title role.

On Saturday, Lohan posted a side-by-side pic of her and Ariel on her Instagram account, and the message that accompanied the image read: "I will sing again, as #ariel #thelittlemermaid @disney approve that #billcondon directs it along with my sister @alianamusic singing the theme song for the soundtrack."
