According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin will be playing the part for the entirety of the forthcoming season. Reality star-turned-politician Donald Trump was previously portrayed last season by onetime cast member Darrell Hammond. Prior to Hammond's take on Mr. Trump, SNL vet Taran Killam took on the role.

Over the summer, executive producer Lorne Michaels made the choice to cast 58-year-old Alec Baldwin in the part of Donald Trump. Baldwin signed on earlier this week and filmed a promo segment that hit social media on Wednesday.

Alec Baldwin has a long history with SNL as he has guest-hosted the show a record-setting 16 times. He first debuted on the comedy sketch series in 1990, and since then has performed more than a dozen celebriting impressions such as Marlon Brando, Tony Bennett, Harvey Fierstein, Bono, and Al Pacino.

This isn't even the first time Baldwin has taken on the role of a Republican presidential candidate. In 2011, Baldwin played Texas Governor Rick Perry in a cold-open bit that poked fun at the GOP debates. However, this will be Baldwin's first go at playing the highly controversial 2016 Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Season 42 of SNL will premiere on October 1 on NBC with Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie set to host with R&B singer The Weeknd making an appearance as the musical guest. Also, look for "Hamilton" star Lin-Manuel Miranda hosting the second episode on October 8.

Do you think Alec Baldwin is a good choice to portray Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live?
