Since pre-production on Aquaman is expected to begin in late-December, it now appears that director James Wan (The Conjuring) is in the "location scouting" phase for the Warner Bros. superhero film. Hours ago, Wan took a selfie at the Amalfi Coast, a stretch of Southern Italy from basically the inner ankle part of the famous Italian Boot, and the caption included an Aquaman tease.

"Hanging on a boat. What a gorgeous, picturesque location," Wan wrote. "Maybe for a movie of high sea-adventures?? 🐠 #amalficoast"

While Amalfi Coast could end up being a filming location, a large chunk of Aquaman is expected to be filmed in Australia. Though no official announcement has been made yet, it's assumed filming will take place at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast in Queensland since it possesses the largest purpose built film water tank in the country.

An icon for over 70 years, Aquaman is the King of the Seven Seas. This reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, is committed to protecting the entire globe.

The film is based on characters appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment and will star Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as the sea-dwelling superhero, Amber Heard (Machete Kills) as Mera, and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Atlantean politician Vulko.

It's being directed by James Wan (Furious Seven, The Conjuring), written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad), and produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder.

Aquaman swims into theaters July 27, 2018.
