The All-Female 'Ocean's Eleven' Spinoff Budget Will Be Far Less Than 'Ghostbusters'

As Warner Bros. recently announced the upcoming all-female "Ocean's Eleven" spinoff, the company is looking to avoid comparisons with Sony's recent all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot. The main difference between the two films will be the size of each project's budget.

Sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that Warner Bros. will be looking to spend around $70 million on the "Ocean's" reboot, which is currently operating under the title "Ocean's Ocho." The $70 million budget will be around $80 million less than the $150 million that Sony spent on the "Ghostbusters" reboot that would become a major money loser for the studio. Only minutes after Warners announced that they would be moving forward with a new all-female take on the "Ocean's" story, social media erupted as fans invoked the box office disappointment with "Ghostbusters."

The storyline will involve a heist at the New York's Metropolitan Museum led by Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway. The rest of the cast includes Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna and Awkwafina. The ensemble already boasts a more celebrated group than that of the "Ghostbusters" actresses including: Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Between Bullock, Blanchett, Hathaway, and Carter, the four of them have four Oscar wins and nine nominations.

Sandra Bullock has come on to the project not only to star in the film, but also to serve as an executive producer. She will work alongside Steven Soderbergh, who directed the three Clooney "Ocean's" movies. Gary Ross ("Hunger Games") will be taking on the reigns as the director.

The questions still remains whether the star-studded cast of the upcoming "Ocean's Ocho" movie will be able to outperform that of the George Clooney-led trio of movies that released in the years 2001 to 2007. Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and the rest of the crew were able to rake in $1.1 billion at the box office.
