While the filmmakers behind the first two Hellboy movies have had a hard time getting a third of the ground, that doesn't mean there isn't a broad cultural awareness of the Dark Horse Comics hero.

Last night on Jeopardy!, that was proven when yet again, Hellboy popped up in a clue on the long-running game show.

This time, as seen below, the question was in regard to the recently-discovered "Hellboy" dinosaur, a variation on a triceratops that was named after the comic book character (or, more likely, after his movie version, as played by Ron Pearlman).

Besides a pair of live-action blockbusters, Hellboy has also been featured in decades worth of comics, two animated movies, and he's even had his own beer (to celebrate his 21st birthday with, of course).

Created in 1993, Hellboy has been the primary comics protagonist for acclaimed writer/artist Mike Mignola ever since. Recently, Mignola announced that he was taking some time away from comics following the conclusion of Hellboy in Hell, although the "Mignolaverse" of characters and properties is still going strong under the guidance of other writers and artists at Dark Horse Comics.

In the comics, Hellboy is a demon summoned from Hell by Nazis who hope to use him to their own end -- but it turns out he's a pretty decent sort of demon, and Nazis aren't really his thing. He's discovered by the Allied Forces and raised by scientists at the newly-founded Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, where he works once he grows to be his full size and power.

The "other" Hellboy roamed the Earth during the Cretaceous period, about 70 million years ago. And while scientists discovered the dinosaur's bones about 10 years ago, they only noticed its Hellboy horns during recent museum preparations.
