The first photos of Matthew McConaughey on the set of the film adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower have surfaced.

In The Dark Tower, McConaughey will play the role of "Man in Black." The first photos of the actor in character were taken on location in New York City on Thursday afternoon (June 30). In The Dark Tower, gunslinger (Idris Elba) and an evil sorcerer (Matthew McConaughey) embark on a journey to reach a mystical tower that can save their decaying world.

As a series of novels, The Dark Tower incorporates multiple themes and genres ranging from dark fantasy, science fantasy, horror, and western as it follows a gunslinger on his journey a tower both physically and metaphorically. Eight novels in the series combine for 4,250 page and tie into several of King's other works. A series of prequel comics was also published following the completion of the novels.

The Dark Tower is set for release February 17, 2017.
