Jon Snow Getting A New Hairstyle On Game Of Thrones

Jon Snow is back, and he's got a new hairdo, apparently.

During the off season, star Kit Harington tried to sidestep speculation of Jon Snow's return by claiming he was cutting his character's signature long, black locks shorter. This act would, in theory, prove that Harington was out of his Game of Thrones contract, which includes a clause about keeping his hair at the appropriate length. This kicked off months of fans watching for any sighting of Harington that could provide a glimpse at the length of his hair, which would perhaps confirm or deny his and the Game of Thrones showrunners' assertion that Jon was definitely dead.

It turns out Harington wasn't bluffing. He did cut his hair shorter. The hair and makeup staff on Game of Thrones have been covering the fact up with hair extensions.

"I wanted to sell [the story that he was leaving the series] a bit more," Harington tells EW. "I know this hairstyle, this hair cut is very synonymous with the show. I know in the past I'd said I'd cut it off when I can. I wanted to appear with shorter hair straight away so it would sell the lie."

Now that the resurrection ritual, which included Melisandre clipping Jon's hair, is complete, Jon can reveal his new look, which is described as being like a man-bun.

"We cut it much shorter for this season, and do a different hairstyle this season and put it up in a bun," Harington says.

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
