Michelle McNamara, who created the popular blog True Crime Diary, died in her sleep Thursday at her home in Los Angeles, his publicist says. She was 46.

No cause of death has been named, and McNamara was not known to be ill. a statement from her publicist indicated that her loved ones were shocked by her sudden passing.

McNamara graduated from the University of Notre Dame and went on to get her master's degree in creative writing from the University of Minnesota. True Crime Diary, which brought her into the public eye, covers both new crimes and cold cases, focusing primarily on lesser-known or lesser-covered crimes.

"It's the ones that really don't get that much attention that interest me because I think what's interesting about them is there's more stuff to be unearthed that hasn't been in the public yet and you can do it," she wrote.

In 2005, McNamara married actor/comedian Patton Oswalt of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fame. The pair have a seven-year-old daughter.

Oswalt, who is usually prolific on Twitter, has had no official comment and his social media accounts have been dark except for retweeting a single news story about McNamara's passing. Meanwhile, Twitter well-wishes have been pouring in from all over the country, with the comedy community in particularly closing ranks behind Oswalt and his daughter.

Oswalt, who currently provides narration on The Goldbergs, has a new Netflix special debuting this weekend, and a new comedy pilot planned for FOX in the fall.

"I'll have weekends with my wife and daughter. I'll get to stay home," he recently told the Los Angeles Times about the prospect of the pilot, which shoots in his home city.
