Did you really want to see the fan film Axanar, enjoying a new take on the early days of the Federation in the Star Trek universe? Well, blame the Kliingons for why you can't.

That's what Paramount Pictures and CBS have revealed in their lawsuit against Alec Peters and the producers of the film, which would have shown the war between the Klingon Empire and the Federation before the events of the original Star Trek. Protecting their intellectual property, Paramount and CBS have revealed specific copyrights they've violated:

Vulcan Appearance, the gold-shirt uniform seen above, medals, specific names of characters, planets, and organizations, the Federation logo, and, yes, the Klingon language were all named as specific copyright violations.

So no, it doesn't look like the Axanar producers will get the lawsuit thrown out. In this, the fiftieth anniversary year of the Star Trek franchise, we will get a new Star Trek movie and a new series on the CBS All-Access digital app.
