Deadpool may be the X-Men movie opening on Valentine's Day weekend, but there's plenty of romance to go around. X-Men: Apocalypse will feature three significant romances, according to director Bryan Singer.
"We rekindle romances, there's three romances we start together," Singer explains to SlashFilm. "One that I didn't really explore in Days of Future Past but I did when I wrote the story for First Class between Hank and Raven. We've got Jean and Scott. Suddenly Xavier and Moira start getting reconnected, so that's all starting to happen."
It's interesting that Singer chooses to highlight the romance between Mystique and Beast here, rather than Mystique and Magneto, which earlier reports suggested would be central to the film's plot. Jean and Cyclops is perhaps the most iconic X-Men relationship in any medium, and is vital to the story of The Dark Phoenix Saga, should they chose to go that route. Professor X and Moira is another romance straight from the comics, though an ill-fated one. It will be interesting to see how that relationship gets off the ground again after Xavier mind-wiped Moira at the end of X-Men: First Class.
Of course, we all know that the backbone of the X-Men prequel trilogy isn't romance, but bromance – specifically the one between Charles and Eric.
