Netflix Signs True Blood Showrunner For A Series Of Unfortunate Events

Netflix has tapped former True Blood showrunner Mark Hudis and director Barry Sonnerfield to helm its adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Hudis will act as series showrunner, while Sonnerfield will direct and executive produce, according to Variety.

Based on Lemony Snicket's series of children's novels – which have sold more than 65 million copies since debuting in 1999 – A Series of Unfortunate Events follows three orphans left in the care of the treacherous Count Olaf. The children search for the truth about their parents' deaths, while Olaf seeks out ways to claim their fortune for himself.

Netflix's approach is said to be aiming for multigenerational appeal, and something that both kids and their parents can enjoy together.

The series was adapted into a film in 2004, which starred Jim Carrey as Olaf.

Netflix has yet to announced a release window for the series.
