We all know that Negasonic Teenage Warhead will headline Deadpool's mutant offering when it hits theaters next year. But what we didn't know was that an equally-obscure Marvel character almost took her place.

Garrison Kane (or commonly known as Kane) came extremely close to riding shotgun with Wade Wilson and Colossus in Deadpool. A 90's comics creation by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, Kane had ties to Deadpool through the Weapon X program and Deadpool's occasional comics co-star, Cable. The two had battled in their comic book history, and surely would have fueled some eye-popping action sequences.

But, as director Tim Miller revealed in a recent interview, those action sequences could have popped Deadpool's budget as well. As he explained it to Empire Magazine

"In the original script the action in the third act was great, but it was just Deadpool and a lot of guns. One of my notes early on was that I wanted to see more superhero stuff. We had Garrison Kane in there for a while, but in the final round of budget cuts we had to take him out, because he was a pretty expensive dude. He's got these bionic arms that change shape; he would have been a visual effect for a large part of the movie. And as it turned out, a visual effect too far."

Once Kane fell out of reach, Miller said he went back to Marvel's database for an equally stunning (but cheaper) character. At the end of that list was Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Miller said he was attracted to the characters "freaky, funny name," and the rest was history.

Would you have preferred Garrison Kane over Negasonic Teenage Warhead in Deadpool? Let us know in the comments.

Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016. And to see what other X-Men films open next year, head to ComicBook.com's Comic Book Movie Database.
